Today, with a major snow storm forecast to hit New York City this weekend, Mayor Zohran Mamdani made a series of TV and radio appearances to outline how the City is preparing and to share guidance on how New Yorkers can keep themselves and their families safe.

Earlier today, the Mayor was briefed on City Winter Weather Response Plans by senior city agency officials and state partners at New York City Emergency Management. Following the briefing, Mayor Mamdani held a press conference emphasizing that the City has left no stone unturned in its preparations. A recording of the briefing is available below.

New York City is expected to get at least a foot of snow, with some models predicting up to 16, or even 18 inches. The Mayor is in constant communication with City agencies, and is prepared for any outcome:

    • This morning at 6 a.m., the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) began brining all highways and major streets to prevent snow and ice from accumulating on road surfaces, to ensure streets are safe and speed up post-snow cleanup.
    • Tomorrow, thousands of DSNY collection trucks will be fitted with plows and chains, turning our everyday sanitation fleet into the nation’s largest snow-fighting operation.
    • By tomorrow evening, about 2,000 sanitation workers will be on…

Today, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) published its 2025 Annual Report, highlighting the historic Year One results of the agency under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. The report documents the SBA’s return to its statutory mission of strengthening small businesses and driving economic growth, and a reversal in course following four years of economic policy failures under the Biden Administration – characterized by massive inflation, bureaucratic expansion, weakened financial guardrails, unchecked fraud and crime, and a partisan agenda.

“After four tough years, 2025 marked Main Street’s comeback because President Trump knows that small business is big business for America,” said SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. “It’s why the Trump SBA prioritized capital access, deregulation, and Made in the USA – and helped generate all-time records for small business formation, confidence, and capital delivery. Thanks to the Trump economic agenda – including tax cuts, deregulation, and fair trade, job creators are spring-loaded for another historic year in 2026.”

Under President Trump, the SBA delivered record results in 2025, including more than $100 billion in capital access across its lending, disaster, and investment programs. …

Today, the Mamdani administration issued a final rule banning hotels across the city and country from charging consumers hidden junk fees—often mislabeled as “destination fees,” “resort fees,” or “hospitality service fees”—as well as unexpected credit card holds or deposits, that cheat consumers and hurt honest small businesses.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined Commissioner Sam Levine and business, consumer and labor leaders to announce DCWP’s final rule banning junk fees on hotel stays. This rule will protect both consumers coming to New York City, and New Yorkers traveling elsewhere around the country. Some economists estimate that banning hotel junk fees will save consumers more than $46 million in 2026. The junk fee prohibitions of the final rule go into effect in New York City on February 21, 2026.

When you book a room, the price you see is often not the price you pay. Many hotels utilize “junk fees,” advertising a base room rate and only later revealing additional mandatory charges that make it harder for consumers to understand the true overall cost. Many hotels also issue unexpected credit card holds or deposits with misleading terms. In 2025, DCWP received over 300 complaints from consumers related to hidden hotel fees or unexpected holds.

To address this problem, DCWP proposed a rule modeled on a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rule that makes it a deceptive trade practice under the City’s Consumer Protection Law to offer, display or advertise a price for a hotel without clearly and conspicuously disclosing the total price of the stay, including all mandatory fees. The new rule goes a step further than the FTC’s rule requiring transparency on mandatory credit card holds or deposits taken as well.

Today’s announcement builds on the…

The credibility of Wikipedia, long promoted as a neutral global encyclopedia, has suffered a serious blow. A new investigation has revealed that the government of Qatar secretly paid a powerful London public relations firm to manipulate Wikipedia content for more than a decade. The operation was designed to erase damaging information about migrant worker deaths, labor abuses, and lawsuits connected to preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The revelations expose how wealthy governments and corporations can quietly rewrite history online. They also highlight the growing crisis of trust facing digital information platforms that millions of people rely on every day.

The Wikilaundering Operation

From 2011 until 2022, Portland Communications, a prominent crisis communications and reputation management agency based in London, carried out an organized campaign to edit Wikipedia pages on behalf of Qatar. According to reporting by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, employees at the firm used at least 26 fake accounts to alter and sanitize articles related to Qatar.

These accounts, known as sockpuppets, posed as ordinary volunteer editors while systematically removing negative material. References to migrant worker deaths were deleted. Details about lawsuits and labor complaints vanished. Critical language was softened or replaced with promotional descriptions of progress and development.

The campaign operated quietly for 11 years. During that time, ordinary readers had no way to know that the information they were seeing had been carefully curated by a public relations firm acting…
