The holidays are my favorite time of the year at Friendship Baptist Church. It is when our Harlem community comes together to reaffirm our faith and give back to the city we love. Folks here work hard all year, and this season is a rare and well-deserved chance to pause and take a load off.
Unfortunately, the sense of peace that makes the holiday season so rewarding for our community is also what makes it the most dangerous time of year for scams.
We have noticed an alarming trend in recent years: criminals taking advantage of the holidays to fleece people out of their hard-earned money. New Yorkers are no strangers to scams, but this time of year often catches even the most aware person with their guard down.
In large part, this comes down to simple math: the holidays give scammers a wealth of opportunities to strike. There are more transactions, more donations, and more deliveries happening than any other time of year. Folks hunting for the perfect gift, making more online purchases, and opening their hearts and their wallets creates the perfect storm. But it is also because we are more susceptible. Our faith communities are full of giving people, and it’s not in our nature to be automatically suspicious of an email from someone claiming to be collecting donations for a toy drive or even a caller pretending to be a family member needing help with finances. These schemes catch…

As grocery prices remain stubbornly high, and families struggle to afford everyday essentials, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer sounded the alarm on Instacart’s use of artificial intelligence to charge different customers different prices for the same exact grocery items. Schumer warned that AI-enabled pricing schemes allow large corporations to quietly raise prices behind the scenes, leaving some shoppers with significantly higher grocery bills than others for no legitimate reason. Schumer detailed how these deceptive pricing tactics could cost certain families as much as $1,200 more per year, with New Yorkers and Long Islanders especially vulnerable. Schumer said that consumers are being squeezed and that federal regulators must step in, calling the Federal Trade Commission “checked out” when it comes to protecting grocery shoppers. Schumer demanded new action from the FTC to crack down on AI-driven price gouging and ensure families are not being taken advantage of at the checkout line.
“When a shopper fills their grocery cart whether in real life or digitally, they should trust that they are being treated fairly and that prices are transparent. What we are seeing more and more of is that companies like Instacart are using artificial intelligence to rip off consumers by charging different shoppers different prices for the same exact items. This is jacking up grocery costs across New York City, Long Island, and across the nation. So, today, I am sounding the alarm on this predatory practice and demanding the federal government take new action to protect families from this shakedown pricing,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer.
According to Consumer Reports, many U.S. shoppers who order grocery deliveries through Instacart are unknowingly part of widespread AI-enabled experiments that price identical products differently for different customers—sometimes by as much as 23 percent. Based…

Coaching changes always bring a mix of uncertainty and excitement to college football, and the Mountain West Conference (MWC) is no exception. As the league heads into the 2025 season, several programs will be guided by new or recently settled leaders who could shape the future of their schools. Some inherit proven rosters, while others face the challenge of turning struggling teams around, but all of them add new storylines to an already competitive league.
1. Spencer Danielson, Boise State University
Spencer Danielson has already built an impressive start with Boise State, going 15-3 and securing two MWC titles along with a College Football Playoff berth in less than two seasons. That kind of early success is why oddsmakers currently list the Broncos at +220 to win the Mountain West again in 2025, the shortest odds in the conference. These numbers are available across a range of platforms, including popular options without KYC requirements, which are known for generous bonuses, anonymous betting, and flexible payment methods.
Odds offered by these bookmakers are more than just betting lines; they often reflect how a team’s performance and a coach’s reputation are perceived in the wider market. Danielson’s teams play with discipline and energy. His ability to maximize player development makes him the most compelling figure among MWC coaches.
