The Maritime women’s cross country team took part in the 2017 Skyline Conference Championships on Wednesday afternoon on the Purchase College course. The Privateers finished in 6th place of the 10 league members competing at the event.
Sixth place is Maritime’s top finish at the league championship since the 2011 season, when the Privateers took third at that season’s conference championship meet at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx.
Junior Emily Zink (Brockport, NY/Brockport) paced the Privateers with a time of 26:28.71 which was 23rd best in the field of 75. Sophomore Bethany Champlin (Bronx, NY/Saint Vincent) was two racers behind with a 25th place finish as she registered a time of 26:51.33.
Junior Jean Colgan (Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) was third to finish for Maritime in 26th position with a time of 26:59.11, while classmate Katia Aaron (Clarence, NY/Clarence) took finished in 29th place with a time of 27:40.13.
Junior Riley Huang (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) rounded out the five competitors for the Privateers as she came across the finish line with a time of 32:39.98.
St. Joseph’s (LI) won the championship with a score of 48 points, followed by Farmingdale with 51, Sarah Lawrence with 69. Mount St. Mary took fourth with a team score of 104, while Mount St. Vincent edged out Maritime as the Dolphins had 148 points to Maritime’s 152.
Maritime will be off this coming weekend, but will return to the course on November 11, when the team travels to the NCAA Atlantic Regionals taking place on the Field of Dreams Course in Houghton, NY.
