On Sunday, November 18, 2018, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and AT&T’s New York State President Marissa Shorenstein co-hosted a celebration for the youth baseball teams who participated in this year’s eighth annual “Borough President’s Cup” tournament – Grand Slam Little League and this year’s winners, the Bronx Bombers.

The celebration took place at Tosca Marquee in Throggs Neck and included players, their families and their coaches.

To compete for the Borough President’s Cup, players on each Little League team had to meet a set of requirements unrelated to their performance on the field, including a B-average in school, 90 percent or greater school attendance and a demonstrated commitment to community service.

“This tournament is bigger than just baseball, bigger than playing at Yankee Stadium,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. “These two teams represent what our tournament is all about, placing as much value and emphasis on maintaining good grades as well as community engagement and volunteerism, as in winning and losing. I am proud to host this event each year and I am grateful for the support that Marissa Shorenstein and everyone at AT&T has provided throughout the years, supporting the Borough President’s Little League Cup.”

“Congratulations to all of the Bronx Bombers and Grand Slam Little League players for their excellence on and off the field this season,” said Marissa Shorenstein, President, Northeast Region, AT&T. “AT&T is honored to be part of this special program each year and I want to thank Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. for his leadership which has helped improve the lives of so many in the Bronx community.”

During the event, AT&T presented each team with a gift card to Modell’s Sporting Goods to help pay for equipment for the upcoming Little League season.
