A Bronx high school is saying goodbye to one of its own students just before their school year begins.

Mount Saint Michael Academy student Dominick Bess died after collapsing at a football practice last Tuesday. He was 14 years old.

On Friday, family and friends gathered at the school’s gymnasium for a viewing ceremony, where he would have been starting his freshman year in just 10 days.

The area was set up for a crowd of 500 people, but many more were expected to attend.

Bess’ cause of death has yet to be determined, but initial reports from emergency responders suggest he may have suffered cardiac arrest.

His funeral will take place Saturday at the academy before being taken to his final resting place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
