The Fordham softball team completed a two-game sweep over the George Washington Colonials with an 11-1 win, in five innings, on Saturday, April 9 at Bahoshy Field in the Bronx. The game concluded with a walk-off, grand slam by Chelsea Palumbo that ended the contest via the eight-run rule.

The Rams jumped out to the early lead in the first inning by scoring twice. Jocelyn Dearborn hit a hard smash to third that was misplayed by Tara Fogarty for an error. The next batter, Nicole Callahan, promptly drove her in with an RBI double to left-center. Fordham made the score 2-0 later in the inning when Jamie LaBovick grounded out with Callahan scoring on the play.

The Colonials got a run back in the top of the second when Autumn Taylor crushed a home run to dead centerfield to make the score 2-1 for the Rams. Fogarty followed with a single, but was stranded and Fordham starter Chelsea Plimpton would allow only one more hit all game.

The Rams extended the score to 5-1 in the third as a leadoff walk to Dearborn and an infield single by Samantha Pellechio put two runners on for Gabby Luety. Luety ripped a three-run home run over the wall in left. It was her sixth home run of the season and the three RBI gave her 23, which pushed her ahead of Dearborn for the team lead.

Fordham put the game away in the fifth. Deaborn, Callahan and Luety all walked to load the bases with one out. From there, LaBovick singled home Dearborn which was her second RBI of the game. Beckah Wiggins drove in Callahan with a single down the left-field line to make the score 7-1. Two batters later, Palumbo came up and hit her walk-off grand slam to left center to end the game.

Plimpton went the distance to improve to 12-9 on the season. She allowed one run on three hits, walked only one and struck out four. Kara Clauss fell to 8-10, as she lost to Fordham for the second straight day. With the win, the Rams are 24-16 overall, and 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play. They return to action on Sunday, April 10, as they host the La Salle Explorers for a doubleheader from Bahoshy Field. The first pitch is scheduled for noon.
