On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. hosted a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination and passing.

Residents and elected officials from throughout the borough gathered at the Veterans’ Memorial Hall in the Bronx County Building to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader and his message of peace and unity.

The ceremony was capped off with a screening of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have A Dream” speech, which he delivered during the 1963 March on Washington. The speech is considered one of the greatest and most important speeches in American history.

“Dr. King’s powerful words and deeds have shown us that we can change the world if we work together, laying down a path of hope for like-minded ministers, civil rights activists, community leaders and all individuals who believe in the strength of unity. Though he left us far too soon, Dr. King left our world a great legacy, and we continue to build on his work today,” said Borough President Diaz.
