Statement from Assemblyman Luis R. Sepulveda regarding remarks made by PBA President Patrick Lynch:

“In recent weeks, our city’s entire justice system has been heavily scrutinized. It is therefore understandable that those who do lawfully protect and serve us may feel unduly criticized; however inflammatory remarks will not help to heal any wounds inflicted during this turbulent period. They simply serve to strain relations at a time when cohesion is needed most and to agitate citizens, who would prefer to see a strong, united police force and governing body.

I ask that Mr. Lynch apologize to both the Mayor de Blasio and Speaker Mark-Viverito, two leaders who have demonstrated respect and appreciation for law enforcement. Only by coming together can we continue working toward a safer more unified New York.”
