This could be the beginning of many good things to come. Our good friend, Maxi Rivera a long time community progressive activist in South Bronx will formally announce his candidacy for NY State Assemblyman Saturday April 28, 2012.

Maxi will challenge the long term incumbent, Carmen Arroyo  who has been in office since the 1990′s.

Maxi has been a true community organizer who has spent numerous years giving of his time and resources to better the conditions of many residents of South Bronx. From his housing advocacy work to his love for the youth of the community, Maxi has always been “Front & Center for our community. Maxi’s commitment to the community has been exemplary so it would be only fitting that he should run for public office to augment his work to help his community.

The present Assemblywomen, Carmen Arroyo has been representing this community for 18 years since 1994. 18 years in office is a long time.  Without getting into her record the fact is that this community needs a serious political “shake-up.”  In her heart, Ms. Arroyo has tried to do the best she could for her community. Unfortunately, South Bronx has not changed that much for the better, though no fault of her own. South Bronx needs new visions, new ideas and leadership. Many believe that new blood is required for a new South Bronx. It is time for major changes in this community, Maxie Rivera represents the first of many changes to come.

In an ideal world Carmen Arroyo should step down and rest as she has had some health issues. She is at a stage in her life that she could rest and help promote the positive values of our community writing poetry something that she excels in. This community needs new blood to move the political agenda forward.

Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world, it is a serious cold world where individual personalities and egos take over and make things more complicated than they should be.

South Bronx would benefit from a Maxi Rivera in the State Assembly.

Maxi Will announce this coming Saturday at: 2:00 p.m. at 365 East 144th Street, Bronx, NY 10454
