The following is a press release from the office of Frank V. Vernuccio, Jr., Republican/Conservative Candidate for the New York State Senate, 34th District.

On numerous occasions over the years, I have criticized MTA practices and called for reforms. On June 30, 2010, I demanded that the MTA open its books – ALL of its books – for public review. I also demanded that the State Senate take its oversight responsibilty seriously.

Once again, the arrogant leaders of the MTA ignored public outcries over its mismanagement. Once again, the MTA has called for fare increases, at a time when service is inadequate. Once again, the State Senate failed to stand up to protect the public.

The public’s patience is at an end. The MTA, as an organization managing mass transit, has failed. The time has come to abolish this arrogant and inefficient organization.

It is the responsibility of all elected officials to defend the public from the misdeeds of this organization by the only effective means left, the complete elimination of the current MTA format and the replacement of it by a more open, honest, professional, and effective organization.
