Highbridge Community Life Center (HCLC) will officially open the newest addition to the non-profit agency on September 10, 2009 at 10AM, with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at the facility.

Located at 1438 Ogden Ave., over 9,000 feet of space on the ground floor of this recently constructed building will house Health Careers Training and Adult Education.

The addition of this space provides Highbridge Community Life Center the opportunity to consolidate  its health careers and education programs into one location which will ultimately provide a more integrated and efficient learning environment, and will enable us to increase enrollment by 10%", says Sr. Ellenrita Purcaro, Executive Director. “Its strategic location will also allow HCLC to reach out to neighboring residents in the Bronx and Manhattan, who are interested in these training programs. Thanks to the stimulus package funds and funding from several foundations and New York City agencies, we are able to take our efforts in health careers training and adult education to the next level.

In partnership with the Robin Hood Foundation, HCLC was able to build this state-of-the-art facility. The classroom curriculum is built around innovative technology, including the use of SMART Boards. The effective use of digital technology in health care careers and adult education will maximize student achievement with enhanced career opportunities. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) ranks HCLC’s adult education programs in the top quartile in effectiveness for state funded programs and according to the NYS Department of Labor, demand for trained workers in the health sector is expected to continue to grow over the next decade.

Highbridge Community Life Center is a leading non-profit that provides free, quality education, job training and social services. Located in the South Bronx, near Yankee Stadium, Highbridge Community Life Center serves a neighborhood that is challenged with a large number of residents living in poverty. Highbridge has the lowest median income, highest unemployment rate, and one of the lowest achievement levels of school children in New York City.
