Pickle Eating Contest

Carnegie Deli in Manhattan, NY.

On Monday, August 3rd, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. served as both judge and emcee at the 9th annual pickle eating contest at the Carnegie Deli in Manhattan.

Pickles were supplied by event co-sponsor United Pickle Products, a company that has been located at the same Bronx address, 4366 Park Avenue, since the 1950’s.

The winner was Gabe Kassel who started with 5 pounds of NY Sour Pickles and was left with 2.1 punds at the finish. Gabe came for the contest all the way from Atlanta, GA. The event was also filmed as part of a 10-series documentary on the Carnegie Deli's history, which will air on national television some time after the end of this year.
