Cardinal Dolan Calls NY Senator Diaz

New York state Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. says the call made him cry.

The conservative Bronx minister says that while recovering from knee replacement surgery he received a call from Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

Diaz says he was touched by the call from the Catholic leader.

They have occasionally found themselves on the same side of fights in Albany for areas surrounding abortion and rights and services for the poor and for immigrants.

Diaz in his regular column says the cardinal said simply: "Hi Ruben, this is your friend Tim Dolan."

The Bronx Democrat says Dolan's call gave him inspiration and is helping him recover.
