Dennis O’Connell knew the streets of Bronx like the back of his hand, and on Thursdady, March 3, 2011, a stretch of asphalt will be named for the late, beloved Fire Department dispatcher.

Family, friends, firefighters and officials will gather on East 180th Street, between Devoe Avenue and Bronx Park Avenue, to designate the stretch “Supervising Fire Alarm Dispatcher Dennis O’Connell Place.”

It is a fitting honor for the lifelong Bronxite, who died on October 19, 2008.

He had worked for 37 years in the FDNY’s Bronx Communications Office on that block.
