Access to good medical care helps people prevent illnesses, identify health conditions early, and treat health problems; however, nearly 26% of Bronx residents do not have access to a regular doctor or health care provider.

Nearly 2,000 people per 100,000 people in the Bronx are living with HIV/ AIDS and 1 in 5 Bronx residents smoke.  On Friday June 26th, 2009 the Osborne Association is hosting its annual Bronx Health Fair to address some of the health related issues within the Bronx community.   A large number of community members attend annually.

The Health Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Osborne Association’s Bronx site located at 809 Westchester Avenue, and is geared towards helping participants adopt healthy lifestyles.

Some of the services that will be present at the fair include:

  • HIV testing, Hepatitis and sexually transmitted infection screenings, as provided by Project Street Beat
  • Tobacco Cessation information and Services,  provided by The Department of Health Tobacco Cessation Unit
  • Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, 161st Street Pharmacy, Hispanic AIDS Forum (HAF),  United Bronx Parents and other organizations offering information,  advice, and services to  participants
  • Games, food and fun!

The Osborne Association is an organization dedicated to offering opportunities to individuals who have been in conflict with the law to transform their lives through innovative, effective, and replicable programs that serve the community by reducing crime and its human and economic costs.
