The Department of Health is hoping a new initiative will help curb teen pregnancy in the South Bronx.

Elected officials were among those who attended the kickoff event for the “Bronx Teens Connection” at the Bronx Museum Thursday.

The campaign will distribute prevention based materials to high schools and through new media.

“When you look at high school dropouts and teenage pregnancy, that’s a clear-cut recipe for a path to poverty, and we want people to have a better future, more opportunities, and so this is the reason this is so important,” said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.

While teen pregnancy in the South Bronx has dropped by nearly 25 percent over the past decade, the borough still has the highest rate in the city.
