Volunteers looking to spruce up the borough planted dozens of trees in the Melrose section of Bronx on Thursday.

Volunteers planted 35 honey locust trees along sidewalks in the neighborhood as part of a joint effort by the city Parks Department and TD Bank.

The trees are meant to improve air quality and connect people in the area with nature, despite living in the concrete jungle.

The Parks Department says this is just the start of an initiative to plant thousands of trees in heat-vulnerable areas.
