A big ecology project is getting under way in Bronx.
The project, which will cost nearly $10 million, is at Soundview Park. Fifteen acres of wetland and forest will be restored.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Colonel John R. Boule (boo-LAY’) says it’s part of restoration initiatives throughout the Hudson-Raritan Estuary.
The work will include the excavation of about three acres north of the park’s lagoon area. Tidal wetlands will be created there.
That will provide habitat for birds and marine life. It also will improve water quality and promote a healthier ecosystem.
An access path with an overlook area will run along the marsh to allow for bird watching, nature walks and educational use.
