The Rap Phenomenon is back and nearly 3 months away, are YOU ready to ROCK the MIC? Every May the Hip Hop Culture Center in Harlem (currently known as H2C2) hosts a non-stop cipher-showcase featuring 100+ emcees but this year it’s going down in June.

The Annual Rapathon is one of the truest Hip Hop experiences you will ever come across. H2C2’s devotion to create a platform for artists has allowed emcees all over the Tri-State Area, Cuba, Lithuania, and Sweden to spread their message. Since 2006 the Rapathon has been our most significant event and has grown accordingly. Every year an hour is added making the duration of the 4th Annual Rapathon a massive 27 hours of continuous rap without any profanity.

The 4th Annual Rapathon will feature a one hour segment dedicated to Big Pun and his impact on Hip Hop. Emcees will note his achievements, memories, and impact on Hip Hop through freestyle. The perk of this year’s Rapathon is that it will be documented by the legendary Ralph McDaniels. He is the Hip Hop pioneer, entrepreneur, and visionary who created Video Music Box, the first music video show focused exclusively to an urban market-broadcast on public television. In addition, Ralph will be broadcasting the entire 27 hours of the 4th Annual Rapathon live via his internet show.

The countdown begins Saturday, June 26th, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. and ends Sunday, June 27th, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The Rapathon is open to rappers with the ability to rhyme for 90 seconds straight without cursing. H2C2 also wants to acknowledge the DJ’s who hold us down in this non-stop cipher-showcase feat. We need the wheels of steel to keep spinning so if you got skills and can hold us down for 3 hours straight this may be your chance to shine. DJ’s and emcees who want to perform or just want to be down with the Rapathon movement be on the lookout for auditions/rehearsals starting the last week of May. There is no registration fee for participants.

H2C2 is a facility that conducts Hip Hop centric education youth programs, sneaker battles, art exhibitions, fashion shows, and corporate special events. The location is 2309 Frederick Douglass Blvd., 2nd Floor of the Magic Johnson Theater in the heart of Harlem, along 125th Street shopping district. The center is accessible by A, B, C, D, 2 and 3 trains. For more information pertaining to the 4th Annual Rapathon, please contact Natassia Seward at 212-234-7171 or hiphopculturectr@gmail.com.
