Lehman College To Present Reading & Lecture On Dominican Author José Alcántara Almánzar

Lehman College will present a lecture and reading that focuses on a new collection of short stories entitled Where the Dream Ends by famed Dominican author José Alcántara Almánzar on Thursday, November 15 at 02:00 p.m. in the Music Building on the Lehman campus.

The event will be led by Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert, who translated and edited Alcántara Almánzar's book, and include comments and a Q&A with the author. The program is open to the public, and admission is free.

José Alcántara Almánzar has written over 20 books, including fictional works, essays, and criticism, in a career that has spanned nearly 50 years. His award-winning short stories have been translated into English, French, German, Italian, and Icelandic. In 2009, Alcántara Almánzar was awarded the Dominican Republic's National Literature Prize.

Lizabeth Paravisini-Gebert holds the Randolph Distinguished Professor Chair at Vassar College, where she serves as Chair of Hispanic Studies, as well as a faculty member in the Environmental Studies, Latin American Studies, International Studies, and Women's Studies departments. The author of several books and critical editions, her articles and literary translations have appeared in numerous literary journals.

Lehman College's School of Arts and Humanities and Department of Latin American and Latino Studies are sponsoring the event.
