About 60,000 marchers made their way up the Grand Concourse as part of the 26th Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade on Sunday.

The parade started at Grand Concourse and 192nd Street and went about 20 blocks through the Fordham section of Bronx, to Van Cortlandt Park East.

About 150 political, cultural and educational groups took part in the parade.

One organizer compared Sunday’s event to next weekend’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade in Manhattan, saying that the Bronx parade is a more “intimate” way to celebrate the Caribbean island and its people.

Actor and performer Chita Rivera is the emcee of next week’s parade.
