Glamour Tango

Uruguayan-American pianist and music director Polly Ferman and her acclaimed GlamourTango ensemble will be in concert on Friday, November 9, 2012, 7:30 p.m. at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street in Manhattan. This will be the opening event of the Pan American Musical Art Research’s (PAMAR’s) 7th Annual Latin American Cultural Week in New York City.

GlamourTango is a celebration of women in tango, performed by a company of world-renowned musicians (including piano, bandoneon, guitar, violin and double bass virtuosos), dancers, and a vocalist. It takes the audience on a musical journey through the 20th century with a different and renewed vision of the role of the woman in tango.

Under the leadership and musical direction of pianist Polly Ferman, other members of the ensemble include Eleonora Ferreyra, bandoneon, Ina Paris, violin, Tali Roth, guitar and Iris Ornig, bass. Special guest will be singer Roxana Fontan. The ensemble will be joined by dancers Mariana Parma, Mariana Galassi, Ana Padron and Karina Romero. PAMAR's annual LACW, this year from November 9, 2012 through November 19, 2012 includes participating institutions and artists throughout New York City, hosting presentations of music, dance, film, theater, literature, visual and performing arts from or influenced by the diverse cultures of Latin America.

Among supporting institutions are the American Symphony Orchestra, The World Music Institute, Sotheby's, Christie's, Instituto Cervantes, Clemente Soto Velez Educational Center, Carnegie Hall, Museo del Barrio, Americas Society, Cuban Artist Fund, Music Artist Guild, Jose Limon Dance Company, and Repertorio Español.

Polly Ferman has been called "musical ambassador of the Americas" by the Japan Times. One of the leading interpreters of the music of the Americas, her extensive tours as a soloist have included performances with the Symphonies of San Francisco, Colorado, Vancouver, and Indianapolis, as well as orchestras in Japan, Ukraine, Philippines, Brazil, in addition to recitals in New York, Tokyo, Washington, DC, London, Munich and Buenos Aires. She has performed in Cuba with the all-female chamber orchestra Camerata Romeu and is the Creator and Music Director of GlamourTango.
