On Monday, September 3, 2018 at 02:29 a.m. police responded to a 911 call of a possible unconscious male on the Cross Bronx Expressway near Rosedale Avenue, within the confines of the 43rd Precinct in Bronx.
Upon arrival, police observed on the southbound Exit 5A ramp of the Cross Bronx Expressway an aided 66-year-old male with severe trauma about the body lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive.
EMS responded and pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation determined that the male pedestrian attempted to cross the Cross Bronx Expressway from south to north when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle (vehicle #1) that fled the scene traveling eastbound on the expressway in the right lane. Subsequently, a 47-year-old female operator of a 2016 Lexus (vehicle #2) and 24-year-old male operator of a 2018 Dodge Charger (vehicle #3) also struck the male as he was lying unconscious and unresponsive in the roadway. NYPD’s Collision investigation Squad responded and the investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is pending family notification.
