Police are searching for a suspect after an 81-year-old woman was threatened and robbed in an elevator in Bronx on Friday.
According to police, the unidentified man initially offered to help the woman out of an elevator in a residential building on Grand Concourse and Marcy Place before his demeanor changed.
The victim, who wished to remain nameless, says she thought it was strange when he was telling her his sister was sick and needed money. Then, he pressed the button for the fourth floor where the woman lives before stepping out on the third floor.
He then threatening to cut her with an unknown object if she did not hand over all her money.
She handed over the $23 in her purse but says he demanded she open the blue bag she was carrying. That’s where he found $200 she just took out of the bank. He then fled in an unknown direction.
“I don’t want him to come back and hurt me,” the visibly shaken victim said. “You understand? I hope the police catch him.”
No injuries were reported in the Friday robbery.
The NYPD describes the suspect as around 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with a salt and pepper goatee. He was last seen wearing black jeans, a blue hooded sweatshirt, a green jacket and white sneakers with a black knit cap.
The victim hopes that somebody will recognize the man and give police a call.
