Two Bronx men were arrested Friday after trying to illegally use a credit card via the phone to make purchases from a Westport store and then driving to the store to pick up their ill gotten gains, police said.

Craig Kelly, 22, and Ibrahim Alhassan, 34, were both charged with criminal attempt at larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, identity theft, conspiracy to commit identity theft, illegal use of a credit card and conspiracy to commit illegal use of a credit card. Both men were held on $25,000 bond and given court dates of November 21, 2014.

The two suspects attempted to make a purchase via telephone at Downunder Kayaking, relaying the credit card number and arranging to pick up the purchase at a later time, police said. The employee who took the order phoned the credit card company to verify the purchase and determined that the suspects were trying to purchase merchandise from Downunder using fraudulent means, police said.

The employee called police and when Kelly and Alhassan arrived on scene at 2:30 p.m. to pick up the fraudulently purchased merchandise, officers were waiting for them, according to police.

Both men were taken into custody without incident.
