No Decision On Bail For Ex-Sen. Espada

A judge has put off a decision on whether to revoke the bail of a convicted former New York state senator.

Prosecutors had argued Pedro Espada Jr. should be jailed because he was continuing to loot the bank account of a Bronx health care network — the same allegation that resulted in a criminal conviction earlier this year.

They said that after Espada's trial, the health network sold its remaining assets for $600,000 to another clinic. It says most of the money was dispersed to Espada, relatives, lawyers and companies that the former senator controlled.

At a hearing on Friday in federal court in Brooklyn, the judge said he would need more time to decide the issue.

Espada remains free while appealing his conviction.
