Seven people were treated at hospitals including two officers after a car crashed into a police cruiser in the Bronx early Friday morning.

Police say a Plymouth Neon was driving southbound on Corona Avenue when the driver lost control of the car and plowed into a police cruiser heading in the opposite direction. The accident happened at 12:30 a.m. Friday near Claremont Parkway, police said.

Five people in the Neon were sent to several hospitals in the city with what police said are non-life threatening injuries. The two police officers were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

The driver of the Plymouth Neon is expected to be charged with drunk driving, according to a law-enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation.

Police did not immediately release the names of the driver, the four occupants in his car or the injured police officers.

In another crash involving a New York City police officer an hour earlier, Det. Thomas Handley, of the 90th Precinct, was arrested and charged with drunk driving after crashing his car on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. Police said that accident occurred at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Though the car flipped over and sustained substantial damage, Mr. Handley, who was off-duty, walked away with only minor injuries, police said. He has been suspended from his job, police said.
