Two people who survived a deadly bus accident in Bronx have filed multimillion dollar lawsuits against the driver and bus company involved.
The March 12 early morning accident on a Bronx highway killed 15 passengers who were on their way back to New York City after a trip to Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Connecticut.
The lawsuits, filed on behalf of Yke Chue Lo and Erold Jean Marie in New York State Supreme Court, are seeking millions of dollars in damages from World Wide Tours and driver Ophadell Williams.
Both lawsuits claim the bus company was negligent for allowing Williams to drive the day of the accident. Williams reportedly was speeding when he fell asleep behind the wheel on Interstate 95. The bus reportedly clipped a tractor trailer, then slammed into a guardrail and overturned. Several witnesses reportedly told officials that the bus had swerved several times before the crash for no apparent reason.
Williams has not been charged in connection with the fatalities, but his license was suspended five days after the crash.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, World Wide Tour drivers have been cited five times over the past two years for fatigued driving.
