A Cat Killer Lives In The Bronx

The house of the alleged killer.

A concerned and outraged reader got in touch with us to describe a horrific encounter with a cat killer living in the neighbourhood..

According to our reader, the cat on the picture is over 10 years old and at least 3 kittens from her last litter have been killed and thrown in the draveway by the neighbour on the street, who owns the property at 670 East 178th Street or Oakland Place, between Crotona Avenue and Belmont Avenue.

Our reaader's phone calls to the ASPCA have remained futile. The owner of the house, a black male in his 60's, told our reader he will kill the rest ofthe cats as he did not want to see our reader around any more. When our reader told him it was a crime to kill a cat, he responded he did not care.

Two of the bodies were removed before our reader could get a camera, but they managed to take the body of a third one and freeze it in their home as evidence to this ongoing brutal crime.

Based on a most recent update provided by our reader, the ASPCA has dismissed the case. Apparently the officer was more "sympathetic" with the alleged killer than with our reader, to the point he implied our reader was lying. All that despite the fact that the alleged killer has a profile with ASPCA from back in 2008.

The name of the officer who handled and closed the case is John De La Torre.

John De La Torre is a Special Agent for Humane Law Enforcement at the ASPCA. Agent De La Torre joined the organization in May 2001.

Prior to joining the ASPCA, Agent De La Torre was employed as a veterinary assistant in Roslyn, NY. In 1999 he earned an Associate’s Degree in graphic design and advertising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Agent De La Torre currently lives in Queens with a rescued Pit Bull named Wednesday.

“I always loved working with animals and wanted to be part of an organization that helped them,” says De La Torre. He could be reached at 212-876-7700 ext. 4460. ASPCA's website could be accessed here.

We hope that the local authorities come to their senses, and revisit the case.

People who practice animal cruelty should be firmly punished by the law and sent to prison without pretext. It is a real shame that there are still criminals like this one out there killing these beautiful animals.

Thank you, Mr. Milosheff, for having the temerity to report this atrocious narrative. Unfortunately, I am aware firsthand of this sad scenario having aided this kind rescuer in a chronic situation of overwhelming abandonment. If the cruel perpetrator really didn't care, he could just as easily have allowed Animal Control or better yet, humane intervention, to evacuate the poor kitties. I applaud this individual for having the courage to make a difference and for taking a huge risk among all too prevalent apathy. I hope that the this despicable man will finally suffer for his disturbing acts and these defenseless creatures will ultimately get some measure of justice.

This situation is just intolerable! If the perpetrator has such a reckless regard for the cats' lives and safety, he certainly has the same attitude toward humans. Hope this troublemaker is soon brought to justice, though any sentence received would be far too lenient in light of the vast harm caused,

First off, this guy 'has' to be stopped if guilty. And if possible, keep your cats indoors, treated like a loved member of the family, because of these dangers: If it's too expensive to fix the cat, then I beg neighbors to pitch in and help. That having been said, people often feed homeless cats and can't afford to also 'fix' the cat. People need to help: We can all do our share. But guys like this, if true, and it's a good bet it is true, are monsters & no excuse for this slaughter of the innocent!! Any one who can do that to any animal, much less kittens is not fit to even be called 'monster'. Not even hell will have you.

Killing cats in New York State is a felony. Sometimes the ASPCA do not take the appropiate action agains this tipe of crime... Same situation was around here in my neigborhood but I called and they come and told the neighbors that killing cats is a felony and now all is ok.. That man deserves a few years in jail regaedless the fact he is a senior citizen.... He has to learn a lesson!

Get this sick individual off the streets, before he takes his aggression out on some innocent person, murdering the Lord's creation is repulsive enough...

This is a matter for the police -- it is illegal to kill innocent animals. Whoever witnessed this should call the Humane Society and the local police!

This is tragic! Please contact the ASPCA asap! I am not in NY - but am outraged by this. People, it is your responsibility to protect these innocent animal beings. Man domesticated cats, now we must do what we can to protect them.

I am appalled that in Bronx a sadistic man is brutally killing kittens and cats, admits it, and blatantly states that he will continue to commit this crime. It is shocking and outrageous that brutal killing and threats are allowed by the Humane Society and by law enforcement. This man is guilty of a crime. He knows this and says he does not care. Judging by his actions and statements he is a menace to society. This cat killer is apparently dangerous to humans as well as he is to animals.

Someone will be held accountable when a sadistic fiend such as this kills a child, or kills the neighbor he is harassing by throwing the cats he murdered onto her driveway. The Humane Society must falsely advertise on TV if this is any indication of how they protect animals. I will no longer send donations to those who look the other way when animals are being murdered.

What is wrong with law enforcement that they haven't arrested this man? The persons who are in position to stop this cruel and barbaric behavior, and who refuse to do, so will be forever held responsible for happened to helpless animals, for the continued criminal behavior of this man, and for crimes he ultimately commits in the future.

The feral kitty in the photo was trapped by my friend last week. She will be spayed and qill live as an inside cat only, so, the bastard will not kill her .

Hopefully, no more cats will think that his home is safe haven for them. And he gets the karma he deserves for murdering cats & kittens!

The ASPCA came and was charmed by the cat killer. This event has happened before & the same results. Maybe he is tipping the ASPCA with a little dough ray me $$$$$ to ignore his killing spree?

The ASPCA has called this a closed case. The ASPCA in NYC sadly does not care about animals or the public they just want your money. If you give them a donation it's like sleeping with the devilI

So, frustrating! Who can help our animals if they are in control?

ASPCA should take immediate action to protect these poor animals from evil people like the "man" on your article who should be quickly sent to jail to pay for these awful crimes...

I would like to know if this man has been arrested for breaking the law. The authorities need to act on this. And if they have not, maybe they condone this type of behavior. Every serial killer, started abusing and killing animals first. If he will kill an innocent animal, he will do that to you. Get this guy in jail and away from society.
