A Federal Civil Rights lawsuit was filed this week against a Yonkers police officer who arrested a 44 year-old home health aid after having beaten her unconscious.  The violent attack, captured entirely on surveillance video, resulted in the hospitalization of Irma Marquez with a fractured jaw, concussion, two black eyes and facial lacerations, as well as bruises and swelling over her neck, torso and numerous other parts of her body.

Russian businessman Viktor Bout, who was arrested last week in Thailand by US special services as an alleged arms dealer, was convoyed to a high security level prison in Bangkok. It happened after the court declined his lawyer’s petition for release on bail. Besides, the court answered investigators’ claim to prolong Bout’s period under guard up to March, 20, when US special services are expected to send to Thailand all the documents necessary for his extradition to the USA.

Four people were arrested Thursday and accused of organizing prostitution ring that charged wealthy clients in Europe and the U.S. thousands of dollars for prostitutes rated by diamonds.

Viktor Bout, an arms dealer known as “The Merchant of Death,” was arrested in Thailand, at a Bangkok hotel. Special services from many countries of the world have been hunting for Bout for years. US officials believe that the Russian businessman is world’s largest arms trafficker. Hollywood apparently sticks to the same opinion: Nicolas Cage played a character similar to Bout in a 2005 film Lord of War.

Within the last two decades the Bronx has had its fair share of vice. From crime sprees in the south Bronx to disputes over real estate in the north Bronx.

BBC Radio Four, the UK's most respected speech based radio network, is making a documentary about the forced sterilization of women in the United States by the Indian Health Service.  We would be very grateful to hear from the women who suffered from either being forced or coerced in to having a sterilization operation during the 1970's onwards.
