Not many tourist consider the Bronx an option when visiting New York City. The Bronx, however, is the gem of New York City. A great place to go whether you’re looking for bargains, want to take a stroll on the beach, visit some animals at the zoo, go fishing, watch a great ball game, or enjoy some delicious ethnic food.
There are many places in the Bronx to suit a variety of needs. If you’re looking for an assortment of goods at an inexpensive price than Third Avenue is the place for you. Third Ave, which stretches from East 149th St to Gun Hill Rd is a shopper’s paradise with discount stores like Conway, Revolution and Ray’s. Third Ave has everything from electronics to clothes.
For those of you who want some fun in the sun than the beautiful Orchard Beach is your best bet. Orchard Beach is located on the Bronx Riviera by Pelham Bay Park and is one of New York’s best kept secret. Orchard Beach is spacious, clean and free. If you crave sports and want some excitement than you can’t go wrong with Yankee Stadium. The house that Ruth built is home to many Hall of Famers and is conveniently located by the no. 4 train. All of the A-listers play there including Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez and they have ticket prices that can fit into anyone’s budget.
If baseball and the beach isn’t your thing than you may want to give your fishing skills a little boost by practicing at City Island. City Island is located east of Pelham Bay Parkway and in addition to fishing you can also go shopping, City Island has many Vintage boutiques, art galleries and top of the line seafood restaurants.
When visiting the Bronx the rule of thumb is you can’t go there and not stop by the world famous Bronx Zoo. Where else can you get a glimpse of the Amazon while observing some of the world’s most exotic and beautiful animals? From giraffes to polar bears the Bronx Zoo has it all and each year they feature a different series that include exclusive animals that can’t be seen anywhere else.
At the end of a long day sit back and unwind with some delicious ethnic food, perhaps some African? For some delicious African food try the Ebe Ye Yie Restaurant located at 2364 N Jerome Avenue. Ebe Ye Yie serves freshly made West African Cuisine at a reasonable price, with many types of dishes to suit anyone’s taste buds, try ordering my favorite (Ghanaian Wache) you won’t be disappointed.
If African food may a bit of a stretch than you might go for some delicious Spanish cuisine. Molino Rojo Restaurant offers “a casual and comfortable setting and is the perfect place to spend time with friends and family”. They also offer hearty Spanish dishes at inexpensive prices. Molino Rojo Restaurant is located at 101 East 161 St. Other great places to visit in the Bronx include: Van Cortland Park, Riverdale Park, The New York Botanical Garden, Fordham Road and The Point.
