You read that right. The Pope — the guy who is supposed to be the shepherd of the worldwide Catholic Church and defender of the faith — just told the West it should “perhaps be a little less fearful of Islam.” He said it recently while pushing for more “authentic dialogue and respect,” even citing places like Lebanon as some kind of model where Christians and Muslims can supposedly “live together and be friends.”

Meanwhile, thousands upon thousands of Christians are being hunted down, burned out of their villages, kidnapped, raped, or outright murdered by Islamist militants and Muslim mobs across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. And the Vatican’s response? More hand-holding and happy talk about fraternity. It’s enough to make you want to throw something at the screen.

I’m not the only one who sees the insanity here. Lance Wallnau put it bluntly on Flashpoint: “I don’t think this Pope understands that Islam has an agenda, and every time you give an inch, there is no reciprocity — they’re not opening up their mosques for a Vatican prayer room.”

That line hits hard because it’s true….

PropertyShark’s Q1 foreclosure report shows NYC’s distressed property sector in a mild downtick, slipping 3% Y-o-Y to 399 first-time filings, while pre-foreclosures inched down a near-negligible 1% Y-o-Y to 1,538 lis pendens. Still,

The Bronx has long been underestimated as an economic engine. That narrative is changing fast. Independent businesses across the borough are driving a measurable shift in how money moves, where jobs form, and what the future of New York City’s outer boroughs might actually look like.

This is not a story about corporate investment or rezoning headlines. It is about entrepreneurs who opened storefronts during uncertain times and built something real — and the data now backs them up.

Digital Spending Habits Reveal New Consumer Priorities

As businesses adapt, so do their customers. Bronx residents are increasingly engaging with digital services — from e-commerce and streaming platforms to online entertainment. This shift mirrors national trends where households diversify how they spend discretionary income across both physical and digital channels.

Part of that digital diversification includes online entertainment platforms. Players across the country who explore options like offshore casino sites reflect a broader consumer pattern: spending that once flowed exclusively through physical venues is now distributed across digital platforms. For Bronx entrepreneurs building hybrid retail and online models, understanding where consumer attention travels is increasingly relevant strategic knowledge.

Bronx Entrepreneurs Lead Neighborhood Economic Recovery

The numbers tell a compelling story. New business applications in the Bronx increased by 66% between 2019 and 2021, a surge that outpaced most expectations for a borough still managing pandemic recovery. That kind of growth does not happen without genuine entrepreneurial momentum at the community level.

Organizations like the Bronx Economic Development Corporation have helped sustain that momentum by channeling micro-loans and resources directly into empowerment zones. Small retailers, food businesses, and service providers across neighborhoods like Mott…

Today, the Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative released its “State of Soccer New York City / North Jersey” report, a first-of-its-kind analysis of the region’s youth soccer ecosystem commissioned by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund as part of its Play to Thrive initiative. The report examines barriers to participation and identifies opportunities to expand access for children across the region ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which will hold its final in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

Children turn to soccer for connection, joy and belonging — yet costs, infrastructure shortages and systemic inequities often restrict access to young people who can benefit the most from play. At a moment of heightened national attention on the sport, the report uncovers a unique opportunity to rebuild youth soccer as a more equitable, accessible and youth-centered system.

To uncover these findings about the youth soccer ecosystem in New York City and North Jersey, Aspen’s Project Play conducted a sport-specific “State of Play” analysis that included interviews with local leaders and policymakers, a regional community summit, focus groups with children, parents, and coaches, a data analysis of field availability versus demand, and a survey of nearly 700 youth soccer players. The survey lets children share their soccer experiences directly, so local leaders can improve programs based on their feedback.
