Former Hooker Teaches In The Bronx

Would you be happy if you learned that your elementary-grade kids are being schooled by a former sex worker?

Meet Melissa Petro, 30, an awkward looking blond — the elementary school teacher who admits using CraigsList.org website to post sex-for-cash ads from October 2006 to January 2007.

Petro had been reassigned pending an inquiry by the special commissioner of investigation for the city schools. She should be fired immediately. In addition, she should be prosecuted for prostitution, given her widely publicized admissions.

One cannot help but pitty this poor excuse for a human being - once a prostitute, always a prostitute.

I don't know the full background of this woman, but stating that she is a 'poor excuse for a human being' and 'once a prostitute, always a prostitute' seems extremely harsh. Way back when, even Mary Magdalene was forgiven for her discretions, by the Holy One Himself.

She obviously made bad choices in her life, but to be forever condemned for them, is not necessary. It's not like she murdered someone in cold blood.

A consideration on her part, since parents do tend to worry about their children, is to possibly find another career choice for now. She's still young enough and has many options, and opportunities, ahead of her.

Case to remember: If there wasn't such a high demand for prostitutes, there wouldn't be any need for this profession to begin with.

Why write an article about a success story if you are going to find the negative about a person trying to better themselves. And, of all the pictures to use, you are really trying to destroy her. Now if she is still prostituting she has no business in our schools. If she has left that life, gone back to school to pursue a better life and be a teacher, she should be commended. As for does anyone want a former prostitute to teach our children? Well, of course the answer is going to be no, but do we really know our teacher's backgrounds?
