New York State Attorney General Letitia James and New York State Assemblymember Emérita Torres today joined local elected officials, labor unions, advocates, and community members to rally in support of the One Fair Price Package. The One Fair Price Package consists of two bills that would protect New Yorkers from surveillance pricing, an unfair pricing scheme in which companies use shoppers’ personal data to set individualized prices for consumers. The One Fair Price Act, sponsored by Assemblymember Torres and Senator Rachel May, would ban surveillance pricing in New York. The Protecting Consumers and Jobs from Discriminatory Pricing Act, carried by Deputy Majority Leader Gianaris and Assemblymember Solages, would ban the use of electronic shelf labels and prohibit surveillance pricing in grocery stores and pharmacies.

“New Yorkers from the Bronx to Buffalo are already dealing with higher prices, and now big companies are using their personal data to charge them even more,” said Attorney General James. “The One Fair Price Package will ban predatory surveillance pricing while protecting the legitimate discounts and loyalty programs New Yorkers – including our veterans and seniors – rely on. I urge our friends in the legislature to pass these bills to ensure one fair price for all.”

“New Yorkers deserve to know that the price they see is the price everyone sees and pays,” said Assemblymember Emérita Torres. “The One Fair Price Act takes a critical and necessary step toward protecting consumers from corporations that use personal data and opaque algorithms to charge people different prices for the same…

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) today held Modernize Together: Upcoming NYCHA Capital Initiatives, a strategic one-day industry briefing bringing together potential partners to explore $550 million in innovative, new capital programs for NYCHA’s Section 9 properties. These targeted capital investments are distinct from the Authority’s modernization programs that involve Section 8 conversions like Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) and the Public Housing Preservation Trust.

On Thursday, April 23, 2026, over 400 attendees, including contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and other industry experts convened to learn more about opportunities to work with NYCHA on diverse upcoming projects. Through breakout sessions, industry panels, workshops, and direct networking between contractors and delivery teams, the event provided participants with practical insight into how NYCHA plans, procures, and delivers large-scale capital projects as well as how to qualify as a vendor to compete for these projects.

A central focus of the briefing was the increasing role of design-build in shaping how NYCHA delivers large capital projects. For smaller firms, understanding this model is critical to accessing larger, multi-year contracts.

“The Modernize Together briefing represents a notable evolution in how NYCHA engages with…

Today, the Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative released its “State of Soccer New York City / North Jersey” report, a first-of-its-kind analysis of the region’s youth soccer ecosystem commissioned by the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund as part of its Play to Thrive initiative. The report examines barriers to participation and identifies opportunities to expand access for children across the region ahead of the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, which will hold its final in New Jersey on July 19, 2026.

Children turn to soccer for connection, joy and belonging — yet costs, infrastructure shortages and systemic inequities often restrict access to young people who can benefit the most from play. At a moment of heightened national attention on the sport, the report uncovers a unique opportunity to rebuild youth soccer as a more equitable, accessible and youth-centered system.

To uncover these findings about the youth soccer ecosystem in New York City and North Jersey, Aspen’s Project Play conducted a sport-specific “State of Play” analysis that included interviews with local leaders and policymakers, a regional community summit, focus groups with children, parents, and coaches, a data analysis of field availability versus demand, and a survey of nearly 700 youth soccer players. The survey lets children share their soccer experiences directly, so local leaders can improve programs based on their feedback.
