Espada Selling His "Home" In Bronx
He will now be free to burst from the cocoon, and transform into the Mamaroneck-residing disgraced politician facing decades in prison butterfly that he is inside.
Back in April 2009, CBS discovered that Espada mainly resided in a $700,000 home in Mamaroneck; neighbors in the Bronx said that they had never seen Espada at the co-op at 325 East 201st Street. Espada is currently on trial, accused of embezzling more than half a million dollars from the Bronx nonprofit health care network they managed, which may explain why he is trying to sell the Bronx apartment now. However, he'll have to accept less than what he paid—Espada put the apartment on the market for $25,000 less than he paid for it 2007, and a broker told the News it could be even worse.
In the midst of the investigation into his health care network, Espada lost his bid for re-election to Gustavo Rivera, to the sadness of his colleagues. Below, you can see a video from 2008 of one of Espada's Bronx "neighbors" confronting him about living in Mamaroneck:
