Gertrude Hartnett Dies At 81

Gertrude (Trudy) Hartnett of Yorktown Heights passed away peacefully at Calvary Hospital in Bronx on October 18, 2012. She was 81.

She and Patrick Hartnett were married for 56 years and lived in Yonkers for 47 years. She precedes in death her five children: Patricia, John, Kathleen, Michael, Jim and their spouses Rush, Kris, Robert, Molly, and Dani.

Hartnett has seven grandchildren: John, Michael, Flynn, Haley, Kayleigh, Jillian, Chip, and Patrick. She was predeceased by her parents Cecilia and Maurice Flynn and sister Cecilia, all of Bronx.

The woman graduated Cathedral High School in 1949 and served as secretary for the Chancellor’s Office in St. Patrick’s Cathedral before being married in June 23, 1956 by a friend of the family, Monsignor Quinn. Hartnett later worked as a legal secretary for nearly 20 years before retiring and attending Westchester Community College in Valhalla.

Services were held at Yorktown Funeral Home in Shrub Oak on Saturday and Sunday. Mass of Christian burial was held at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Church on Monday, October 22, 2012.

Hartnett was laid to rest as Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Calvary Hospital 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY 10461.
