As a boy, in the late 1920s, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, the 35th president, resided at a mansion at 5040 Independence Avenue in the Riverdale section of Bronx.

JFK, front row center, at Riverdale Country School circa 1927.

He was here from fifth grade to seventh grade.

Joe Kennedy, JFK’s father, wanted to bring them to this great center of power.

The house is impressive, and 80 years ago would have been plenty of room for athletics, a Kennedy passion.

Inside, the 20-room, three-story stucco house built in 1907, is undergoing substantial renovation, with virtually no sign of its former or current occupants.

But some people in Riverdale know well who lived here, and that the boys went to Riverdale Country Day School, which still exists.

The Kennedy connection is a proud one for New Yorkers who know unlike another association – the man the Warren Commission said killed President Kennedy, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Twenty-five years after Kennedy lived in Bronx, Oswald lived there, too, at multiple addresses. He also lived in Manhattan: On East 92nd Street between First and Second Avenue. The Warren Commission lists the exact address.
