Joe Echevarria, 54

Joe Echevarria, 54, was born in Bronx, NY. Starting his career at a local gas station, he noticed the accountant made much more money than he did. Years later he baceme and still is the CEO of Deloitte, LLP, one of the largest and most reputable accounting firms in the world.

He joined the Deloitte U.S. Firms in 1978 and became an audit partner in 1988. Since that time, he has held a wide range of leadership positions, most recently U.S. Managing Partner – Operations.

Before that, Echevarria served in a number of leadership roles such as Regional Managing Partner of the Southeast Audit Practice, Audit Partner in Charge of Florida, and Audit Partner in Charge of South Florida. He represents the organization’s commitment to leading the profession and setting the standard of audit excellence.

One of Joe's favorite sayings: “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

He was appointed U.S. Managing Partner – Operations in 2007; he was directly responsible for the management and operations of the U.S. Firms’ four business units, which deliver audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory services to Deloitte clients.

Joe has also led the firm’s Strategic Relationship Management program and led the enabling area of the firm, comprising Partner Services, Information Technology, Research & Innovation, Field Operations, Strategic Procurement, India Operations, Deloitte University, CFO Program, and Corporate Development.

His leadership responsibilities extend to approximately 50,000 professionals in nearly 90 U.S. cities and India. Joe chairs the U.S. Executive, is a member of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL) Executive and DTTL Board, and serves on the Americas Executive.

Like all Deloitte professionals, Joe's work plays a crucial role in serving the investor public and protecting capital markets, while providing high-quality services to our clients.

He actively serves some of the firm’s largest and most valued clients and is committed to delivering the insights clients need to address their most critical and complex business challenges.

He is also actively engaged on Capitol Hill as part of the Federal practice growth strategy, and has testified before numerous commissions and agencies.

Outside Deloitte, Joe balances career and family life with his wife, Ana, who is an IT consultant for Bacardi, and their three children. He is involved in community organizations, serving on the Orange Bowl Committee and as a corporate advisory board member of the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting. He was named Executive of the Year by that organization in 2007.

Joe earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, where he serves on the University’s School of Business Administration Board of Overseers and is currently an Executive in Residence.
