With a population of more than one million and covering over 42 square miles, the Bronx is a vibrant part of New York. But what was the Bronx like in the early 1900s, and how does it compare to now?

In a new book from Arcadia Publishing, authors Kathleen A. McAuley and Gary Hermalyn showcase the borough’s rich history in a personal way through vintage and contemporary photographs.

In their introduction, the authors proclaim that “oftentimes what happens in the Bronx is reflected in the rest of the country years later. The borough of the Bronx is a microcosm of the nation.”

Highlights of The Bronx:

• Displays historic photographs beneath modern-day snapshots of the same location, displaying the contrast between the past and present
• Provides a richness and understanding of life in the past that words cannot express
• Categorizes the chapters based on regions: Northwest Bronx, Northeast Bronx, Southeast Bronx and Southwest Bronx
• Includes a few aerial pictures showing areas of the Bronx that are very different today

Available at area bookstores, independent retailers, and online retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing at 888-313-2665 or ArcadiaPublishing.com.
