Guide by Cell, the nation’s leading mobile technology provider for nonprofit organizations, announces that its cell phone-based audio guide technology is now part of the new Bronx River Walk cell phone audio tour in Westchester County, New York, narrated by veteran news journalist, Dan Rather.

The Friends of the Westchester County Parks, which is leading the restoration and preservation effort of the Bronx River’s 13.5 mile area, selected Guide by Cell’s cell phone audio guide to help the public understand and appreciate the scope of the restoration, and of the park’s historic significance. The cell phone audio guide is one of several interactive mobile technology options available for people to use to explore the park, read about them at here.

Currently there are 25 audio stop choices to glean fascinating details about the county’s first park. The audio guide features recordings narrated by former CBS journalist and anchorman, Dan Rather who reads from a script written and produced by RPD Media Associates LLC (www.rpdmedia.net). Rather became involved as narrator after having been asked by RPD Media’s President Richard Diefenbach, a former CBS news journalist. The veteran news journalist agreed to become part of the Bronx River Walk tour project with the only condition being that his services be donated to the Friends of Westchester County Parks as a way to give back to the community and to honor his life-long passion for the outdoors. To hear the Bronx River Walk cell phone audio guide, dial 914-517-5575 (press 1# through 30#).

“We’re particularly proud of the Westchester County Bronx River Walk audio guide,” said Richard Diefenbach, President of RPD Media Associates LLC. “Visitors will discover this is a creative way to learn hidden gems about this amazing park. They will learn more about landmarks such as the Valhalla Stone Bridge, the Sycamores, Garth Woods and numerous other important places. We are also excited to have anchorman Dan Rather provided the narration for this important addition to our park.”

Several audio stops highlight historic sites that date back as far as the early 1800s including the Mill Stream Diversion where gates allowed millers to regulate water flow to grist, saw and stone mills in the 1800’s.

“This is truly a remarkable new twist on an existing tourist and visitor attraction and Guide by Cell’s mobile technology is helping us reach visitors in an innovative way by simply allowing them to use their cell phone to access the tour,” Diefenbach added.

“Anyone who enjoys the outdoors will be amazed at the breadth of information available when visiting these historic sites,” stated David Asheim, President and Founder of Guide by Cell Inc. “The Bronx River Walk team found an exciting means of combining historic facts with technology to develop a meaningful and memorable experience. We’re delighted to provide the technology for this outstanding interpretation project.”
